I had some time to kill today, so I went to the local book shops. I wasn’t going to buy anything, but of course… Well, anyway, I found a book entitled “Life & Afterlife In Benin,” photography from that African country (Phaidon Press 2005; haven’t read the essays, yet). It looked interesting, but did I really need another book? I liked what I saw, but I was wavering - until I saw this photo (I took a quick photograph of the page). That really stopped me in my tracks.

The description gives “Edouard Mehome, Studio Photo Vedette, Porto-Novo, A woman sits for a final photograph with her dying mother.”

I’ve seen a lot of photography recently (Pier 24 in SF etc.). But this photo, plus the description - I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this before.
